2011 is turning out to be a wonderful year for Wasteland. Colin Rowntree of Wasteland.Com was inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame, earlier this year. The award was presented to him at the prestige AVN Awards, the equivalent to the Oscars for the adult Industry.
“I am honored and delighted at being inducted into the Internet Founders Branch of the AVN Hall of Fame,” said Rowntree, whose Wasteland.com site is widely considered the premier fetish site on the internet. “Since starting Wasteland.com in 1994, I’ve seen the adult entertainment industry develop and change dramatically and have truly enjoyed being an active part in its metamorphosis, being a mentor to many coming into the industry over the years, and striving to provide a positive example of artistic and ethical practices. My gracious thanks to AVN for this wonderful recognition.”
In December 2010 we were nominated for 3 Xbiz awards, Progressive Web Company of the Year (Wasteland, Inc.), Specialty Affiliate Program of the Year (SpiceCash.com) and Specialty Site of the Year (Wasteland.com).
The awards show was held on Wednesday night (February 9, 2011) at the at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles.
According to XBiz.com – “The industry’s biggest business awards show honored the most influential companies and performers who play an essential role in the growth and popularity of adult entertainment around the globe. Hosted by Digital Playground contract star Jesse Jane and comedian Whitney Cummings, the show was XBIZ’s ninth annual awards gala.”
Wasteland.Com walked away with “Specialty Site of the Year” award. “I’m speechless, states Rowntree, I am truly honored that we are held in such high regard by both our peers and our members.”
Even with all this humbling recognition, the greatest honor was left for last. Rowntree received the Free Speech Coalition (FSC) “Leadership Award”, presented to him at the Xbiz awards by FSC Executive Director, Diane Duke.
“Colin not only went above and beyond to support FSC, but also to reach out to his colleagues and peers in the industry. Colin’s work exemplifies the kind of community-building that the adult industry needs in order to face the issues that challenge us today.” Ms. Duke is quoted as saying.
Wow, it’s going to be tough to beat this next year! Colin says he is thinking of running for “Pope” if the job opens up.
